Velcro Aussie

If you've never had an Aussie you will have a hard time comprehending what I'm telling you here. Bogie is the 4th Australian Shepherd to have graced the Mosier Household. And like the rest of the crew he is a Velcro dog. What this means is, he will wait, and wait, and wait for you. No matter how long it takes. He will never leave your side. You will go to the bathroom, with him at your feet. You will take a shower or a bath with him beside the tub. He will sit by your chair for hours. He will be so close to you that if you turn and take a step you will smash his paws. We are a family that is very aware of all the quirks and perks of going through life with our best friends. Bogie is a foster dog. He's 11, his 'mom' gave him up when she moved. Over the course of several months Bogie has bonded with us. We don't think it's fair to him, at his age to be adopted out and put in yet another home, with another family. Besides, we have fallen in love with him. ❤️

It's Been A Long Time My Friends

Its been a long time since I've written. A lot has happened in our corner of the world. I'm sure eventually you'll all get caught up with the Mosier Farms happenings. Sometimes life throws you a curve. You have to adapt to survive (which I struggle with). We have some wonderful additions to our family. A new daughter-in-law and grand babies.

Memorial Day Weekend with the Family

OMG!! The hottest day of the year so far, and we are sitting at a STL Cardinals game IN THE SUN!!!!   No, seriously, I love it when we all get-together. We have been very blessed and are very proud of all of our kids.

The weekend started out for me on Friday, May 25th. I traveled to St. Louis to spend some time with our daughter. Just a mother/daughter couple of days.  I SO NEEDED IT!! Friday was spent getting settled in and Cassie had to work (she works 2nd shift).
Saturday morning we took off and went to our favorite coffee shop Kaldi's in Clayton, MO for brunch.  It never looses it's appeal! We then headed to a shop called TFA (The Future Antiques).  It is such a neat little shop and transports me back to a time when I was a little girl.  So much of the items in the shop I remember as a part of our household items.  I could spend a lot of time there.

Then Sunday, the rest of the family met us at Busch Stadium.  Here are a few pictures of our day.

This Ain't Norman Rockwell's House

Here’s the Real Deal at the Mosier House (aka Animal House) for Christmas.

Jeremy, Sarah and Kasen landed on Friday night.  All was well and lively……..Kasen ate, and ate, and ate….poor little guy had been sick with the stomach flu the entire week before…..and he ate, and ate, and ate…..  Yep! You guessed it! He was up all night with a belly ache.

Fast forward to Saturday afternoon. Cassie arrives; she brings in her dog, Scooby and her new kitten, Leo.  Now things start to get interesting.

Kasen  blows out his diaper. We have diarrhea and desitin on the downstairs bathroom rug. I take the rug upstairs to the laundry/bathroom and I discover Leo had messed on the rug in there!  Back downstairs, I find that PaPa Bear didn’t think the Oyster soup was getting done fast enough so he turned the heat up and curdled the milk, UGH!! I whisk the Oyster Soup (try to salvage as much as possible).  Kasen is settled in and drinking pedialyte. The rest of the family arrives,

dinner is served, presents are opened,

found out a new grandbaby will be here in August (YEAH!),

went to Children’s Christmas Eve program at our church.

And now bed…Ahhhh……

At 3:30am I am awakened by the smell of something burning! I rush downstairs and the smell is awful! I am running around trying to find the source. I finally figure out it is coming from the basement kitchen. The smell is overpowering, nothing like I had ever experienced. Cassie!! After a night out with friends, she decided she was hungry; she put some vegetables in a pan to heat up on the stove and fell asleep on the couch!  After cleaning up that mess, and trying to air things out, I head back upstairs to find that Leo has crapped again, on a bathroom towel!  HELLO LEO……litterbox please!!!  I clean up the shit, throw the cat in the garage, and pour myself a drink.

It’s 12 o’clock somewhere, right?

Mosier Farms Fall Update

Whew!! It's been a while since I have written.  A lot has happened in my tiny corner of the world.  We have butchered 40+ chickens, started and completed harvest.  We have been so blessed!  Another successful year either in the bin or already hauled to the elevator.

I am traveling to my son's house every Tuesday and 3 Friday's for the next 8 weeks.  My daughter in law is finishing up her student teaching and I get to spend the day with my happy go lucky grandson! Life is good!

10 Commandments of a Farm Wife

10 COMMANDMENTS FOR THE FARMER'S WIFE

Rosa E. Borntreger, Riceville, IA

1. Thou shalt not chase cows with your hands in your pockets because husbands don't like that.

2. Thou shalt cook meals that can be served 30 minutes early or two hours late.

3. Thou shalt learn how to keep farm records.

4. Thou shalt love with thy whole heart the aroma of new mown hay and sweet smelling cows.

5. Thou shalt be inspired at seeing the sun rise and relieved to see it set, even if the sink is full of dirty dishes.

6. Thou shalt learn how to open gates, guard them carefully and close them again.

7. Thou shalt thrill at the sight of a newborn calf and rejoice after you have succeeded in teaching it to drink.

8. Thou shalt live closely to God with a true faith that exceeds that of those who don't know what it's like to live on a farm.

9. Thou shalt cherish your meals together and patiently endure long waits for the vet to arrive and take the time to make decisions as when to mow the grass.

10. Thou shalt love lunch together even though the smell of the farmer may be stronger than the food on the table.

Baby Chicks

I am so spoiled, my entire life has been spent on the farm.  I first was a farmers daughter, granddaughter and have been a farmwife for 30+ years.  Because of this lifestyle I have grown accustomed to several things, one includes homegrown farm fresh food.  In particular, I have a hard time eating any meat we purchase from the grocery store......well.....I won't buy beef, pork, or chicken at the grocery store, period.  If we don't have a supply of 'home-grown' we will purchase our meat from the local locker plant.   We just received our shipment of baby chicks, 11 Buff Orphingtons which will continue to lay eggs, even in the winter and 41 Rhode Island Reds, that we will butcher at the end of the summer.  There is nothing better than farm fresh eggs!   McMurray Hatchery also included with our order a 'special' chick.  I believe it is a Partridge Cochins.  For now we have them all settled in with a heat lamp, food, and water.  They have settled down over the past couple of days and so far we haven't lost any chicks. Praise the Lord!

Morning Java

Hello, my name is Laura and I am a coffeeholic.  I know, it's a problem, but I can't find a support group that will help me out.  I drink coffee all day, it is my drink of choice.  If it's after 3:00pm, I switch to decaf.  Recently a good friend introduced me to a different spin on coffee.....add a scoop/packet of Hot Chocolate mix your coffee. It's heaven! I'm a gonner....I am HOOKED! Sometimes enablers are nice to have around, like a warm fuzzy blanket on a cold winter day.  I love you Sheila!

Christmas at the Mosier's 2010

Wow!  Not sure where to begin.  Jeremy, Sarah and baby Kasen arrived on the 22nd, and stayed with us for a couple of nights.  Cassie arrived from St Louis on the morning of the 24th. It was good to have the house filled up and some energy here.  We celebrated CHRISTmas on Christmas Eve.  PaPa Bears parents came over in spite of the a serious snow storm and a stern recommendation that they turn around and head back home while it was still daylight.  PaPa Bear was called out to plow snow so he missed all of the festivities at home, and the Childrens Christmas program at the church.  Which by the way, Rylee and Beckett did a fabulous job!. Josh and Brooke brought over the video last night so he could see the grandkids open presents.

I am missing my dad more this year than ever.  We have a new baby in the family and so much has happened since he passed away.  I wish I could just talk with him one more time.  I have been very sentimental with the festivities.  The vintage felt stockings, I made with the grandkids this year.  I've knitted slippers; we used to get a new pair every year from my grandmother and great aunt.
I gave the kids a bit of their past for Christmas this year, since they are no longer babies.

However....They will always be my babies!

The Cat

The family cat's name is Dusty.  We adopted him from a shelter.  Dusty had reached the end of his time in the shelter, he had been with a foster family for 6 months and had been declared 'unadoptable'.  I received an urgent email request from a friend of a friend...you know how that goes.  Well anywayz...I did not want a cat, we already had a very old cat (who has since passed away) and our daughters dog in the house and I did not want another inside animal!  Papa Bear and I are at the phase in our lives that we are ready to pick-up and go.  We don't want to worry about someone coming in to take care of the animals.  So, back to Dusty.....I kept looking at that face, this went on for about a week and I knew the time had come I either made the call or I needed to let it go.  He has been a part of our family for about 3 years now and we would not trade him for all the money in the world!   He makes us laugh!  However as it turns out Dusty is absolutely the most worthless cat I have ever seen in my life.  This is where he will stay until the presents push him out.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

So, here is the Mosier Farms Christmas Tree.  I love decorating and haven't had the time to really get into it.  Now that I am retired from the corporate world (and a full time farm hand and chief cook and bottle washer).  I have the desire to fuss around with my home.  If I were pregnant....(which I am not) folks would call it nesting.  I just call it 'sick of the mess and ready to dig in and get my house in order'.

What a good day!

I was blessed with spending a better part of yesterday with my newest grandson and his beautiful mommy.

What a fantastic day! He is adorable and thriving. Sarah has settled in with her new mommy role, like a pro.
